With COVID-19 continuing to mutate and healthcare experts warning of a ‘tripledemic’ of respiratory diseases of RSV, Flu and COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to mitigate the spread of these diseases. Energy Cloud set out to prove out its hummingbird™ system can deactivate COVID-19 in realistic building HVAC (heating air conditioning & ventilation) systems with realistic airflows. The system won an Edison Award in 2022 for its testing with realistic HVAC airflows and efficacy against COVID-19. Initial testing began in 2021 and continued throughout 2022. The expanded testing in 2022 included testing the system up to 2,000 CFM per unit. The units can be added together to handle larger airflows. Hummingbird™ deactivation of the virus – known scientifically as SARS-CoV-2 – was independently tested and proven at the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine, with all Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) work performed within The Hastings Foundation and Wright Foundation laboratories. SARS-CoV-2 BSL-3 resources were supported by a grant from the W.K. Keck Foundation’s COVID-19 research fund.
